New Yorkers Want Law On Medical Marijuana, Not Executive Order

Marijuana advocates in New York gathered to put pressure on Governor Andrew Cuomo. Patients, doctors and other caregivers met at the Capitol on Monday to support new legislation to legalize medical marijuana.

Ten years ago Carney, who is HIV-positive, was prescribed a synthetic form of marijuana to treat a complication that caused her to lose a lot of weight. The drug improved her appetite and lifted her depression. After a year, she didn’t need it anymore and stopped taking it.

“People who are going through chronic illness really need this,” she said. “They want it for relief from pain.”
